Need a good-paying job with a great benefits and want to stay here in town? Lots of local offices are up for grabs in 2018, and one of them could be yours! Mesa County Democrats are seeking progressive, open-minded people with fresh, 21st Century ideas to run for local office and help change our area for the better in our area. Positions are opening up for County Commissioner, Clerk and Recorder, Treasurer, Assessor, Surveyor, Sheriff and Coroner.

Many of the local offices that are opening up are perfect for first-time candidates who have no political experience. John Justman, for example, was an onion farmer before he was elected county commissioner! The job pays over $70,000/year and includes a rich benefits package. With that in mind, consider a possible future as an office holder in our area! For Commissioner, Clerk and Recorder, Treasurer, Assessor and Surveyor, the term is for four years, and those elected are limited to two terms. The qualifications are as follows:

  • Minimum Age Requirement: 18 Years
  • Residency Requirement: Resident in the county one year preceding the election. For commissioner candidates, resident in the Commissioner District you are running for.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen [CRS 30-10-501.5]

For Sheriff and Coroner, the terms are four years, those elected can have no more than three terms and the qualifications are:

  • Minimum Age Requirement: 18 Years
  • Residency Requirement: Resident in the county one year preceding the election.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen [CRS 30-10-501.5]
  • Fingerprints: Complete set of fingerprints taken by a qualified law enforcement agency and submit a receipt of evidence of such fingerprinting at the time of filing written acceptance or candidate affidavit.

Many offices are opening up at the state and federal levels, too.
