Grand Junction City Council sent a letter January 17th to both Colorado U.S. Senators and the western slope’s House representative urging Congress to quickly pass a single-issue DACA bill to protect the Dreamers, “productive members of our community” who were brought into the U.S. illegally as children. The letter urges lawmakers to adopt an immigration policy that will recognize “the basic rights and dignity of all people and the roles and responsibilities they have in shaping our communities and our future.” Five Council members voted in favor of the letter. The two who opposed it were Duncan McArthur of District E, (the area between 7th and 12th Streets up to Orchard Ave. and Orchard Mesa) and Barbara Traylor Smith of District B (generally north of Patterson Road from 27 Road east).
